Girls Rugby at KWP & Gordon District

With girls & women's rugby the fastest growing area of our sport worldwide and in Australia over the last few years, and the the success of our national women's teams, especially in 7s, KWP have been focussed on growing girls playing numbers.

A Supporting, Safe & Fun Environment

Essential to this growth is to ensure we have a welcoming, supporting, safe and enjoyable environment for the girls that choose to play rugby at KWP. And we're proud that this has resulted in a growth in girl playing numbers.

The 2020 season continued this growth with 20 girls playing across our mini and junior teams, including KWP fielding our first ever all girls team (in the U7s age group).

A Clear Pathway (Through Age Groups & onto Rep Teams)

Another important element of growing the girls game is to ensure our girls have a clear pathway to progress as the get older and progress their skills and abilities.

Generally girls safely and competitively play in mixed teams through the minis age groups and into juniors up to around the U12s or U13s, so we're excited that the 2021 season will see the exciting introduction of our partnership with Gordon Junior Rugby to create the all girls program under the newly created Northern Wildcats.

The Newly Created Northern Wildcats

An exciting new chapter for Girls Rugby across the Gordon district in 2021, the Northern Wildcats is an inclusive Girls only rugby program that will build on the success of Gordon Junior Rugby’s girls rugby program that was launched in 2014.

With teams across U13s, U15s & U17s, the program will complement the current playing options we have for girls here at KWP meaning all our girls now have a comprehensive playing pathway.

Girls should register in the same way all KWP players register (www.kwprugby.com/registration/) but choose the “7s Junior” as the registration type – see instructions on website for more details.
